Bahrain Launches New Yacht Regulations to Attract Maritime Tourism

Edict 9 of 2025, a cornerstone of the new framework, streamlines the navigation permit process for visiting vessels. Non-commercial foreign-flagged leisure yachts must secure permits from the ministry's Ports and Maritime Affairs Directorate before entering Bahraini waters if not working with a local shipping agent. These permits will be valid for one year with renewal options, allowing multiple visits throughout the period.

Undersecretary Bader Hood Al Mahmood has unveiled a comprehensive guide detailing procedures for visiting vessels in Bahraini waters. The resource is designed to help yacht owners understand compliance requirements for Bahraini regulations.

The guide covers essential compliance requirements including AIS operation, insurance, incident reporting protocols, and visa requirements for passengers and crew.

Environmental protection is also a central focus. Larger vessels must meet strict waste management standards, and new protected zones have been introduced to safeguard Bahrain's marine ecosystems.

The kingdom is supporting these changes with infrastructure investments in marina developments along its coastline to enhance facilities for visiting vessels.

The regulations, set to take effect next month during the Gulf's popular cruising season, are expected to boost Bahrain's tourism sector and support its economic diversification strategy.
