Columbus Yachts Launches Construction of "next-generation" Explorer

The decision to build the 48-meter vessel on speculation reflects the Italian manufacturer’s growing confidence in market demand, particularly following the positive reception of its Crossover 42 and Crossover 47 predecessors. Columbus currently has both models in active construction, with the Crossover 42 targeted for completion within the current year.

The Crossover 48 represents a sophisticated evolution in explorer yacht design, built upon a battle-tested naval architecture developed by renowned Italian design house Hydro Tec. The yacht features a robust four-deck configuration utilizing steel and aluminum construction methods, paired with a displacement hull engineered specifically for challenging transoceanic crossings.

The vessel’s design philosophy emphasizes social spaces and relaxation areas throughout, complemented by a versatile cockpit area that can serve dual purposes as either tender storage or be transformed into a refreshing dip pool. The yacht’s accommodation strategy centers on six well-appointed cabins, including a premium VIP suite positioned on the main deck and an expansive owner’s suite located on the upper deck.

Key specs include an 8.6-metre beam and a draft of 2.75 metres.

Additional technical specifications and design details will be released as construction progresses.
